Correspondence between Mayes and Gardner chiefly concerning the reprint of Gardner's biography of Horatio Alger and the introduction Mr. Mayes was to write for it. Mayes expresses concern over the accuracy of the Gardner work and his feeling that a new completely factual Alger biography should be written. Includes two letters from Frank L. Millner to Mayes about Alger, two letters from Mayes to Jack [Bales?], and a letter to Mayes from Ken McCormick.
